Used to the grind of producing a film a week in her adult movie days, Traci worked steadily and turned out numerous films over the next few years. Soon, Traci was fielding offers for more high profile work. The result was a new direction for Lords' career. John Waters, well known for taking non-actors and getting a memorable performance out of them, used Traci's notoriety and public perception to his and the film's advantage. Lords finally got a break and good notices when she was cast in the film Cry Baby (1990) opposite Johnny Depp. Lords herself noted that she went on more than one audition where she would have to read opposite an "A List" star like Jack Nicholson only to find that the star was more nervous around her than Lords was around them. Even so, many of Traci's casting calls came about because of her history. Determined to gain some credibility in the entertainment business, Traci pushed forward with attempts to make mainstream projects in Hollywood, despite her "notorious" status. Lords took ballet and voice lessons along with training at the well known Lee Strasberg Studio. While Lords may not have lit up the screen with her performance, the determined actress decided that she would work to make a go of this new opportunity. Director Jim Wynorski ( Vampirella) featured Lords in his re-make of Roger Corman's Not of this Earth in 1988. If the adult world was now closed to her, the unlikely world of mainstream entertainment seemed to have become an option. Most in the industry still refused to promote Lords or even talk about her, feeling that she betrayed them and nearly caused its destruction. Lords may have thought about returning to her former stature in the adult industry but found that most people in the business were less than receptive. If this was the case, the ploy worked – it is illegal to own or trade most of Traci Lords' films, magazines or any other material that shows any of her body in an unclothed state. This move led many to speculate that the still-unknown informant which leaked the information was Lords herself, in an attempt to get her adult films off the market. Traci as part of her High School swim team Lords went on to appear in one adult film after her 18th birthday, a film which she retained all rights to and control over called Traci, I Love You. The adult film industry successfully argued that Lords had fooled them with faked identification in much the same way she had fooled the US Government by applying for and receiving a passport using the same information. This film was also used as the United States main piece of evidence that the adult film industry engaged in the use of under aged women in their films once Traci's secret became public knowledge, just before her 18th birthday in 1986. In a case of "art" imitating life, one of Lords' adult films, 1984's Those Young Girls, features Traci and newcomer Ginger Lynn (herself no stranger to scandal or mainstream film) appeared as childhood friends who "made it" in the movie industry until scandal threatened to take it all away. Lords' name on a film, video or magazine was money in the bank for the people behind the scenes, a fact not lost on the young girl who learned the business end of entertainment very quickly. Lords' early full figure and ability to carry herself as an adult added to the illusion, fooling everyone in the adult film industry and everyone else. and the stage name Traci Lords (a combination of her girlfriend's and Hawaii 5-0 star Jack Lord's names), the newly re-made adult film ing¿nue made a splash in the industry, rapidly becoming one of its biggest stars. Something of a wild child, Nora ran away at 15 and wound up in Hollywood, getting involved in every parent's worst nightmare – adult films. Her Mother, wanting a fresh start after divorcing Nora's Father, moved the young girl and her three sisters to Lawndale, California. Young Traci Traci Elizabeth Lords was born Nora Louise Kuzma on May 7th, 1968 in Steubenville, Ohio. BIOGRAPHY: Yeah, you read it right when you clicked the link.
